So how do you find classrooms to communicate with in other countries?
Hadn’t thought of that when I wrote the Quick Start Tips For New Skype Users post but fortunately Mike and David Ashby did.
So how can we make it easier for people to connect? Well been thinking that I could set up another page on The Edublogger like the Check out These Class Blogs page but for educators wanting to connect with other classrooms via Skype.
So I was wondering if you could help me? Are you interested in connecting with other classrooms?
Can you please share with us (by leaving a comment on this post):

I think it’s a great idea, but I’m worried about the endless duplication of networks I seem to be joining.
Here in Australia there’s groups on EDNA http://www.edna.edu.au/edna/go , which IMO is an excellent network – if only more people would join. I also belong to Steve Hargeddon’s Classroom 2.0 and then there’s PD WIki Australian EduBloggers. It’s getting a bit out of hand.
Could what you are suggesting be linked to one of these existing networks?
@mppsliblog I agree there is duplication across networks. Part of the nature of it all in some ways. EDNA is great but the nature of it makes it harder for people to connect and it’s mainly Australians whereas what I’m after helping global connections. Same comment about the Australian Edublogger wiki.
Classroom 2.0 is a great site and has been excellent for helping people connect. I’m happy to provide a link to a page on Classroom 2.0 where people can check out similar information — if you can provide it.
Regarding having a list on The Edublogger – it’s role is to support the educational community. So if readers make suggestions that would help the community, and it sounds like a good idea, then if I’m able to help I will.
I think both you and Paula make valid points. What I would like to do is include links to these other sites on the page so educators can also go across to those sites.

If anyone does movies with students, we have a collaborative StopMotion site up and running, in which students create short movies around literary themes (math in the spring, perhaps?).
The project is called Longfellow 10: http://lf10.wordpress.com/ (sort of a secret film society for kids)
Right now, just two schools (mine and another) are involved but we would love to get more classes involved. And I can help mentor anyone wanting to give it a try, too.
You can contact me at dogtrax(at)gmail(dot)com, if you are interested.
Kevin
Hi Kevin – trying to work out a category to place these under. Would it be Stop motion? I’ve set up an ESL/EFL for Larry’s can you suggest what you would prefer for yours?
Hi Sue
How about a movie-making category instead? That way, it might cover some more ground for student productions.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin – I’ve added that category to the page – can you check the information and make sure I have got it correct?
Hi Sue
So, this seems obvious and yet ….
Where is the link to the resources you are creating? Have I missed that part of the conversation?
🙂

Hi
I have 18 students age 18 who would like to comminicate/collaborate with students in the US. We are currently working on English social studies, American government and the presidential election to mention some topics. Skype might be difficult due to time difference but we might connect other ways?
Mrs Michaelsen
Ann –
We are very interested! There are many other ways to communicate such as student blogs, project wiki, twitter, etc. Contact me at [email protected] and we can toss around some ideas. If you twitter, you can tweet me (tidertechie).
My husband teaches here also. They are currently in a US geography unit. Ill find out his schedule too and maybe they could join us a few times.

Hi Lisa
Look forward to hearing from you. My students’ blogs are on this page. http://annmic.wordpress.com/

As a Technology Learning Mentor, my job involves bringing teachers to student collaborative projects (sometimes even reluctant ones!) and supporting students and teachers…connecting students for learning is a wonderful experience for any/all subject areas. @Jeff Whipple,
I am a Primary 6 teacher in the Highlands of Scotland. I have 27, 9-10 year olds. We all all very green around the ears with blogging but nonetheless keen.
Until the end of March, we are doing a project on the Highland Clearances, which resulted in the emigration of Scots to Canada and other places around the world. There were particularly cruel evictions locally and the kids are very interested in this topic.
I wondered about the possibility of finding a class of a similar age, interested in investigating and sharing information about their immigrant ancestors. We could share information about life over here. I am reading the excellent book, The Desperate Journey by K. Fidler, which gives a gripping account of what happened to the local crofters.
@craighillps,
Hello,
I also teach a keen group of grade 4 students (ages 9 and 10). If you haven’t gotten too far into your area of study, I’d be interested in sharing information between classes.
If you have completed this, maybe we could collaborate on another project. Thanks.
My kids would be blown away with some sort of collaborative activity!

Hi Tim
If you podcast, we are planning to get our YouthRadio site up and running again in the new year.

You can contact me at dogtrax(at)gmail(dot)com, if you are interested. It’s a podcasting/blogging project for upper elementary/middle school students.

Kevin,
Hey, thanks! Yes, I am interested. Today is the last day before holiday break, and I will check out your youthradio site–which I know I have seen before–during that time.
I have just begun messing with having the kids do recording, and some district persuasion, so I look forward to staying in touch with you in the very near future!
Thanks, again.
