Calling All CLASS blogs…Please Share Your Blog URL With Us!

Image of a light bulbWhen setting up a new blog it’s always handy check out other people’s blogs for ideas.

So I’ve been thinking it would be really helpful to everyone, especially new educators, if we had a page on The Edublogger for links to class blogs called Check out Class Blogs. The list could also be helpful for people wanting to create connections with classrooms in other countries.

So I was wondering if you could help me? Do you have a class blog or are able to recommend some class blogs?

Can you please share with us:

  1. Blog name(s) and URL(s).
  2. Approximate age of students and are they primary, secondary or tertiary?
  3. If applicable, what subject area? e.g. maths, science, language, history, English, Art, Music, ELL, ESL, & EFL
  4. Country

Thanks to Sue Tapp for reminding me that this task was on my to-do list!

  1. Thanks for this list.

My class blog is for my English classes 9th and 10th grade) that I teach in a high school resource room program. Most of my students have a learning disability in reading or written expression. I do have a few with ADHD, ASD, or Speech problems. For all of my students passing general education English classes is difficult. So each student’s IEP places him/her in my class. This year my district adopted the Michigan Merit Curriculum at pretty much requires that all students receive the same content and be assessed using the same tests. Therefore, I have been seeking ways to increase motivation and interest in English/Language Arts.

I am using these blogs as an online journal. We already have a wiki where I post assignments. We also use Google docs for written work. They can’t say that they lost their work.

  7. I love this list. I have copied a lot of the ideas for my blog. I hope that is permissible. I started a blog this year for my class of 6th grade language. I teach a block of reading and writing to 10 and 11 year olds. We use our blog to record what has happened in class and a place to discuss and post writing. There isn’t any student writing yet, but it will be added soon. Our blog is called What up dawg? and you can check us out at http://newdeal.edublogs.org/ in Las Vegas, NV

  8. Wow! What a list! I almost feel lost in it already…

Uh, anyway. My class blog is actually three classes, students that are in grades 3 and 4 (approx ages 9-10). We use the blog to share information and activities, and have linked it to our group wiki, where the students have more space to do their own thing.

We’ve tried a few things: podcasting, forums, and lots of comments. It’s only our first year (we started in July), so we’re taking things in our own time.

The blog is called Parkhill Kids, it’s at http://parkhillkids.edublogs.org

  9. I didn’t know whether the blogs on your list have to be hosted by Edublogs but if not you could include our class blog called A Really Different Place http://areallydifferentplace.org

The bloggers are Kansas K-7 gifted ed students. The blog is three years old and we have received 35,000 visits. That’s a lot of writing, reading, thinking, reflecting and discussing!!
