The 2009 Student Blogging Challenge is now nearly half way through and the students have been working REALLY hard on the weekly challenges! Currently 52 class blogs and 150 individual students blogs from 13 different countries are participating.
To celebrate the success of the challenge while also creating an opportunity to collect examples of student work we’re giving away twelve Edublogs supporter 12 month subscriptions which you can use on your own blog or give away to a reader.
Just write a post based on any of the topics themes listed below:
- Your own choice of topic but must include embedded media, created by the student or class, such as a SlideShare, video, comic strip, podcast, quiz, poll. Here’s the chance to demonstrate how creative you can be!
- Your story of how blogging has helped you connect to a global audience and what this connection has meant to you. e.g. the friends you have made, what you have learnt about other cultures, how you are able to share your passions with others, how you are able to use blogging to share your views on topics
- What difference has blogging made to your life at school and home e.g. how has it changed how you learn, the challenges of blogging and how teachers might make the process easier
Any class or student blogger can enter, including bloggers not currently participating in the 2009 Student Blogging Challenge, but you must:
- Leave a comment on this post letting me know you have entered, with a link to your post plus your Grade/year level.
- Explain in your post which topic you are writing about and link back to this post so that we receive a pingback advising us that you have written the post (read this to understand What’s A Pingback? And How To Write Links).
For example you might copy the following into the bottom of your post and just change the topic enclosed in the qutoation marks:
This post has been written on “my story of how blogging has connected me to a global audience” as part of The Edublogger’s Student Competition!
The four best post for each topic will win and you can submit posts for as many topics you like. And off course all winners will get a badge they can add to their blogs
Remember we’re looking for the best — so here is your chance to demonstrate your blogging and creative skills! You have until April 30 to enter.

Hello!
My name is Jacob. I have blogged previously on the challenge.
For this challenge I am going to produce a link to my History
Fair website. History Fair is a country-wide “fair” in the U.S.A.
This year’s theme is, “The Individual in History.” For my
project, I chose to research Dr. Martin Cooper – the inventor
of the cell phone. I did this with my partner, James, and we
are currently at the States level. If we place first or second
then we will move onto the Nationals level. Please feel free to
visit our website for the project. The link is:

I’m Holly and I’m in 10th grade.
I’m putting in my blog about my favorite show NCIS for the competition It has a picture, video, and a survey.
This show I believe is the greatest, awesomess, coolest show ever! It has great characters that keep growing every show. If you don’t know what show I’m talking about, let me briefly summarize it.
NCIS is a crime show about a group of special agents who solve crimes against the Navy and the Marines. NCIS means, Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The particular group on the show is led by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Gibbs has his own way of doing things and he’ll solve a case even if it’s the last thing he does. Under Gibbs is Senior Field Agent, Anthony DiNozzo, or Tony. Tony is what you can call the oldest frat boy. But even though he may be immature at times, he’s a great investigator. Then theirs Officer Ziva David. She is a Liaison Officer from the Mossad, and she’s not afraid to play tough and kick someones butt. Last theirs Junior Field Agent Timothy McGee. He is the newbie of the group and even though he’s still learning, he knows how to use a computer like nobody else. Their is forensic scientist Abby Sciutto, who is a bouncy fun loving goth who everybody loves. Rounding off the group is Dr. Donald Mallard, aka Ducky. He knows it all because he’s seen it all and he’s not afraid to ramble on about his stories. Oh and how could I forget the fearless leader Jenny Sheppard. She is the director of NCIS and was Gibbs’ former lover. Last theirs Kate Todd, {may she rest in peace}. She was in the show the first two seasons and was killed by Gibbs’ worst enemy Ari Haswari, who also is Ziva’s brother. It may sound complicated but really, believe me, it isn’t as complicated as I can explain it. Plus I’m terrible at explaing things!
So basically that’s it. Sounds interesting? Well watch it on CBS on Tuesdays at 8:00. Or watch the reruns on USA everyday from 2-4, on Sleuth everyday at 1, and Ion on Mondays from 5-7. Now that you’ve read this take my Click Here to take survey. Have FUN!!!!

Hello Sue,
With the help of several of my students, we have created a digital story about the impact blogging has made on classroom experiences. You can view the digital story here: http://ghoke.edublogs.org/2009/04/30/student-bloggers-connecting-through-conversation/.
Thank you for providing this opportunity for students to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other.
Ginny

Is there going to be one for May? I didn’t know about it until now, so I can’t finish April’s…oops…

Well Applesandlemonade, that is a really good question and I would love to hear all the students thoughts. I think everyone who participated enjoyed it.
Here is what I’ve been thinking like to run:
1) Another competition again (probably in a few months) but where we first get students suggest the different series of categories that they could post on as I think the topic choices may be really interesting that way
2) While at the same time running a competition where students designed the winners and participant badges for these types of competitions
Hopefully you will all give me your feedback because I would like to hear if you 1) do like these challenges/competitions 2) how frequently you want them offered 3) any thoughts on how I could improve the process.
